Redesign

Over the next week I am going to play with the layout of the site a little, so if it all looks a little strange – please bear with me.

Slacker

April 26th, 2005

I’ve been quite slack lately, haven’t I? Three weeks and no posting at all.
This is more of a diary entry than a specific rant.

I am beginning to wind down my activities at work. My job is going to be split up between two people here – and it looks as though I get to start training them next week.

Olivia has landed a five week job in Albury and will be leaving at the end of next week. The money’s okay and in the lead up to our departure for London (50 days from now) we’ll need every cent we can scrape together – especially since those cents will be worth bugger all once we start to deal in pounds. I have considered contributing to the cause by selling my body, but came to the conclusion that the idea was to make money, not lose it. All jokes aside, we are expecting things to be quite tight for the first month or so – until we settle into jobs and actually get paid. My wonderful cousin Sophie who is currently living in London has kindly offered to put us up when we first arrive. This is a real godsend for which we are extremely grateful.

“So Brian, what ARE you going to do with yourself in London?” Well, as always I’m keeping my options open. There’s a small possibility that may land a job with the fine folk at Verbatim Europe whos head office is a little out of London. Other than that I am in the process of establishing contact with various recruitment agencies and letting them know I exist. Ideally I think I’d like to find a purchasing or a role as they are the elements of my current role that I have enjoyed the most. In the end though, this could be a great opportunity to broaden ye olde horizons, so I’m certainly open to suggestion. Given that most places will not employ you without actually meeting you first (and fair enough too) I’m expecting (hoping for) a flurry of activity in the fortnight leading up to our departure. I’d love to have an interview or two lined up when we arrive, but for all I know that’s a very naive expectation.

Married life is wonderful. We are both extremely pumped about the forthcoming trip. I think it will really blow our minds. We are gratefully accepting suggestions for places to visit from all and sundry – so get writing people.

Resemblance?

Is it just me or does the wrestler on the left in the picture in the previous post bear a strong resemblance to former Richmond great Michael Roach?

WWF Memories

April 3rd, 2005

Do you remember a time when these guys were considered really cool?
Aaah, the Killer Bees. Consisting of B. Brian Blair and Jumping Jim Brunzell. The biggest thing in WWF Tag Team Wrestling back in the mid 80′s.

I would have gotten married in yellow and black stripy underwear like that if I could have found it in time.

A couple of weeks ago I rented the DVD “History of Wrestlemania 1-9“. It brought back a lot of fond memories of Hulk Hogan and Big John Studd.

I used to love watching the WWF wrestling when it first appeared in Australia back in 1985. The variety of characters was immense. You had those that were clearly “Goodies”, those that were clearly “Baddies” and those that liked to swap between the two. Watching the wrestling of today all the characters seem really homogenous, and the shows seem to spend way much more time with the wrestlers crapping on about how they are going to cream their opponent the following week than actually performing said creaming. The production values in today’s wrestling are really high – it’s all quite slick to watch – but it’s not the same. Yes you could argue that it’s me who has grown up and moved on from it all, but looking back at some of the old footage – there’s simply no-one around today with the same appeal that the likes of George “The Animal” Steele or the Junk Yard Dog used to have.

I have discovered a great website. Click on “Profiles” and you can read up on all the old favorites. The Iron Sheik, King Kong Bundy, “Mr Wonderful” Paul Orndorff, Tito Santana – as well as those eternally crappy wrestlers that were always doomed to lose – Mr X, Barry O, and my all time favorite Leaping Lanny Poffo.
