Warm enough

January 27th, 2009

It might seem a bit lame to discuss the weather in my first post after returning to Melbourne.. But all the same, for those of you in Europe – please check out the forecast for the next week in Melbourne.

Really, this is a bit much. Before coming home many of my European colleagues would say “Brian you must be looking forward to going back to Australia and all it’s sunshine” … well, I was.. a forecast like this is making me long for the miserable UK weather.

Weather aside, all is extremely well. It’s great to be back among my family and Australian friends. We’ve nearly finished unpacking (still got some furniture to buy) and are enjoying being back in our house. Olivia is still in Mildura for another week – it will be great to have her home.

The cost of everyday items in Australia has increased noticeably while I’ve been away. Perhaps I just need to get used to dealing in AUD again..

I’m very pleased to see that kangaroo meat is now readily available in supermarkets. I’ve been enjoying it a lot since I’ve been back. Delicious, inexpensive and great for the environment – what a marketing concept.

I’ve just started Week 3 of my new job. So far so good – am still settling in and assessing the lay of the land. Initial vibes are very positive and I think that things are going to get very busy very soon. The folk in the Melbourne office have been very welcoming – even John (who knows what he is).

So on the whole, it’s been a fun home-coming.  Am feeling very much at home in Melbourne.  Nice.
